Curriculum Vitae

Stephanie Jourdan, Ph.D. is the Director of the New Focus Institute (NFI) in Woodland Hills (suburb of Los Angeles), California, a state-approved school offering courses in Mythic Therapy, Hypnotherapy, Accelerated Learning, Archetypal Therapy, Astrology and Tarot. Dr. Jourdan is the President of The National League of Medical Hypnotherapists and the Editor of Healthy Outlook. Her private practice encompasses mythology, archetypal psychology, astrology, Ericksonian hypnosis, enneagram theory and NLP. She is also trained in homeopathy, sound therapy, aromatherapy, and Neuro-Emotional Technique.

A paid astrologer from the age of 15, she grew up with the advantage of four generations of homeopathic physicians on her father's side and a mother that encouraged hypnosis as a household modality. She pioneered billing hypnotherapy as a medical procedure after proving the ability to regenerate her left index fingertip following a work-related accident in a medical environment. The accident spurred her to take up hypnotherapy as a full-time profession in 1988. She has an unusual professional background in advertising, health care, astrology, hypnotherapy, and teaching. She personally trained with the late Edwin Steinbrecher (Inner Guide Meditation) and Don Campbell (The Mozart Theory.) Dr. Jourdan is recognized in Who's Who in America and Who's Who of American Women.

Personal

Born August 31, 1956, Columbus, Ohio. As a child, my mother regularly encouraged hypnosis and imagery. She recommended that I straighten my teeth with self-hypnosis and I did. My father was the son, nephew and grandson of three outstanding American homeopath physicians, so the practice of homeopathy was an everyday skill in our home.

Chronology

1965: Thanks to the influence of students at UCSD, where my mother worked, I began astrological and tarot studies at the age of nine.

1966: Studied hypnosis with Roy Masters at the age of ten.

1971: Wrote an in-depth astrological column for my high school newspaper and began offering readings professionally for fellow students and teachers.

1973: I was rejected by the American Culinary Institute as a woman, so I followed my mother's advice and went into banking. Supplemented my income by offering astrological readings.

1979: Marketing Manager for U.S. Administrators, the largest third-party insurance administrator in the nation. Learned more than I needed to know about billing and claims management for medical, dental, drug, and workers' comp insurance. This later served me well when I introduced medical billing to the hypnotherapeutic communicty.

1981: Decided I needed a creative outlet and took a job in advertising as a copywriter. Through a series of bizarre opportunities, I moved quickly up through the ranks and was named executive vice president of business development at the end of two years.

1983: A conflict of interest prompted me to leave and start my own ad agency: Jourdan, Winkler and Tate Advertising.

1983: Studied astrology and archetypal therapy with renowned astrologer Edwin Steinbrecher, author of The Inner Guide Meditation.

1988: Sold my advertising agency and began practice as an astrologer, motivational speaker and hypnotherapist.

1988 - 1989: Feature columnist for the Conscious Living Guide magazine. Most of the articles focused on replacing fear with positive thought.

1988 - 1989: Motivational speaker for Security Pacific Bank.

1988 - 1989: Studied sound therapy with leading musicologist, Don Campbell (author of numerous books, most notably The Mozart Effect.)

1989: Joined forces with Dr. Jocelyn Eberstein, a high-profile acupuncturist in Beverly Hills, in a new treatment approach for AIDS, using the latest theories in psychoneuroimmunobiology. Later recognized by Who's Who.

1990: Began working under the supervision of two dentists rendering hypnotherapy.

1991- 1994: Worked under the supervision of a psychologist (Catina Marotta, Ph.D. at Olive View) rendering hypnotherapy. Specialized in the treatment of anorexia nervosa with a new mythological paradigm, which was later recognized by Who's Who.

1992 - 2000: Worked under the supervision of an osteopath (Rimon Issac, O.D.) and a sports medicine doctor (Karlis Ullis, M.D.) rendering medical hypnotherapy. Utilized information from my professional background in writing medical and dental insurance proposals to establish protocols for billing hypnotherapy.

1994: Regular guest and authority on hypnosis on NBC's morning show, The Other Side.

1995: Studied Neuro Emotional Technique with Pamela Stalzer, D.C.

1997: Attained Executive Level status in the Young Living Essential Oils organization.

1997- 2005: Speaker for ABH's annual conventions.

1998: Joined faculty and launched new course in aromatherapy at the Institute for Psycho-Structural Balancing (IPSB) in West Los Angeles.

1999: Listed in Who's Who in America, West, 27th Edition.

2000 - 2004: Joined American Institute of Hypnotherapy as a faculty member.

Professional History

1996 - 2005: Nine hypnotherapists and myself established the California League of Medical Hypnotherapists, which later became the National League of Medical Hypnotherapists. I have served as League President and Editor of the Healthy Outlook, the League's newsletter, throughout.

1991 - 2004: Founded New Focus Institute, a state-approved post-secondary school for courses in clinical hypnotherapy, accelerated learning, archetypal therapy, and astrology in Woodland Hills, California.

1987 - 2005: Opened New Focus, a private practice for personal and corporate astrology, hypnotherapy, and motivational speaking.

1983 - 1988: CEO/President of Jourdan, Winkler & Tate Advertising.

1981 - 1983: Executive Vice President, Business Development, for ProMark, an advertising agency in Westwood.

1979 - 1981: Worked for a third party administrator of insurance plans for Fortune 500 companies. Wrote boilerplate for medical, dental, drug, and workers? compensation proposals. I cut off the top of my left index finger while at work and used hypnotic imagery to regenerate it without surgery. Initially, the staff surgeon humiliated me. Once I was able to reveal a perfectly healed finger, a code for medical hypnosis was written. Story was featured on NBC.

1978 - 1979: Moved to Los Angeles from San Diego. Accepted a training position with Security Pacific Bank in computer programming, but changed my mind the first day of work. Followed up on an ad in the paper for Coast Federal Savings and ran into the head of human resources from a former employer. On a dare, I accepted a job "managing" the most difficult executive in banking. Used Neuro Linguistic Programming and astrology to cope with the position.

1977 - 1978: Worked for Wickes Corporation in Cash Management, modifying computer programs (card run) through the study of flow charts.

1973 - 1977: Worked for San Diego Trust & Savings Bank assisting in the introduction of the first ATM on the West Coast. Took first place in Bank's new business lead development contest in 1976. Vice President of the employee social club.
